With four days left before I’m going to South Africa, I get really excited when I hear about the current outpouring in KwaZulu-Natal. Famous and controversial healing evangelist Todd Bentley is leading meetings at a church in Tongaat, and people come from all over the world to take part in what God is doing. Many get healed, saved and filled with the Spirit. Christian News Wire reports:
Todd has been touring South Africa this month and many healing miracles have been documented. These include a girl who was born deaf in both ears and mute, who spoke for the first time and a man blind in his left eye who was instantly able to see. Over 10,000 people have attended the meetings in Durban and hundreds of Muslims and Hindus have committed their lives to Christ.
“Something is really happening here in Durban SA. It’s a move of God,” said Todd Bentley. “It’s an explosion of power. The hospitals are calling for prayer. They are bringing the sick from the hospitals too. One man that was crippled and blind from kidney failure was healed. This is the closest I have been to revival since Lakeland!”

People of God, you must test the FRUIT to determine whether a prophet is of God, not whether their “words come true”. Balaam prophesied things that were true, but he was a FALSE prophet because he misled the Israelites into committing sins, disregarding the word of God. *We are seeing an increase in FALSE signs and wonders. The Bible tells us that THEY will perform all kinds of miracles.. do you not remember the magicians of Pharaoh? We are not to seek after “signs and wonders”. Signs and wonders FOLLOW the preaching of TRUTH. It’s not (all) about what he did with Jessa, but it’s WHERE he went to seek “restoration”. Morningstar (Rick Joyner) teaches a HOST of false doctrines and opens his church up to the Kundalini spirit. A “mystical spirit” that takes you to a “3rd Heaven”.

I definitely agree with you that we should judge the prophets by their fruit, as well as by their teaching. And what is the fruit of Todd Bentley? If you check his website you see that he is 100 % preaching Jesus, their statement of faith is 100 % evangelical and their is absolutely no teaching about kundalini or some other strange stuff. And his fruit when it comes to evangelism is enormous, thousands of people have received Jesus through his ministry. To say that they aren’t truly saved is wrong because Todd preaches the true full gospel, that Jesus died for our sins and heals our diseases.
Now, there are some things that I think aren’t sound with Todd Bentley. His mistakes during Lakeland and his strange habit of hitting people that need healing are among them. But I can’t call him a false prophet as long as he preaches Jesus and leads people to salvation. Just as I can’t call the apostle Peter a false prophet because of the mistakes he maked and that he claimed that angels spoke to him.

In fact he FURTHERED his own demise by going to his buddy Rick Joyner (the Prophet representing Lakeland) for a “restoration” after he was publicly exposed and FORCED to do something (who btw…. said IN HIS OWN BOOK that Paul the Apostle of Jesus Christ visited him and that there is so much “revelation” he never recorded in the Bible and he gave it to Rick to teach to the Church. God did NOT begin Lakeland, that’s why he did not finish it. IT amazes me how just 2 WEEKS before Bentley was exposed and the revival came to a quick END… that God’s “prophets” were on the platform prophesying that God HIMSELF is PLEASED with Todd and he will “increase his anointing” and “tomorrow the Lamb of God will personally appear in the meeting.” huh, really?? Oh he appeared alright and SHUT IT DOWN.
I strongly encourage you to do more research Michael, both on Morningstar and Todd Bentley. OF COURSE he isn’t going to tell Christians on his own website that they tap into a demonic spirit or get into their goofy teachings on tapping into their “MYSTICAL EXPERIENCES IN THE 3RD HEAVEN”. Could someone be saved under the teaching of a False Prophet? Sure! A piece of “fruit” can be placed among the bushes, but it does not mean it ORIGINATED from that bush. A murdering drunkard could ramble on about Jesus dying on the Cross and someone sitting at the bar could receive that truth and get saved. Does that mean the drunkard is a man of God, going to Heaven?? Same principle here.

Well, that’s based on the assumption that the teachings were false, something that I still think you need to prove (I will explain below why I disagree with your views on angels). With mistake I meant Todd’s affair with the worship leader who later became his wife.

Well, people getting saved out of Todd Bentley’s teaching sure is a fruit originating from Jesus through Todd.

Lots of times. Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. The apostles laid their hands on people to impart the Holy Spirit. and so on.

This is quite unbiblical teaching though. If you check recordings of Todd’s meatings you see that he clearly prays for impartations of the Holy Spirit, not any other spirit. Now, can you show me anywhere in the Scriptures where demons are imparted in the name of the Holy Spirit? No, never. This teaching of a “false fire” and “false anointing” popularised by Andrew Strom is completely unbiblical. If you pray for Holy Spirit and impart Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit is what you get.

New age doctrine? Words like awakening and revival were firstly used during the 18th and 19th century when dead churches were brought back to life and people got a living faith instead of boring church life. It was the time of Methodism, salvationism, the Great Awakening in the US and later the Welsh revival and Azusa Street. People still use the words to describe the same phenomena.

A final remark: Discernment is important, but don’t attack people that preach Jesus and impart the Holy Spirit. In my country, Sweden, there are priests in the Lutheran Church that practice Reiki healing, kundalini, oneness blessing etc. Most of them also preach that all religions lead to God, that the Bible isn’t the word of God, that Jesus didn’t do miracles etc. These are true false prophets. Aim your fire at people like them, not Jesus-worshippers like Todd Bentley. ‘Cause no matter how much you dislike him, you will never find him saying something positive about kundalini, new age or satanism, and you will never find him saying something negative about Jesus.

The TRUTH always outlives a LIE. In the end, we will see if the “fire” they call down from Heaven is of God or not. In the meantime, be careful you don’t get burnt playing with it.
As you are taking a great liberty with the scriptural rebuttals you have provided. Scripture interprets scripture and there is no testimony to your exegesis. We compare spiritual things to spiritual things. These “movements” are not new, maybe just new to you. They will fall away, just like those of the past. The only thing different is the degree of Christian Carnage that is left behind.
Btw Todd….. Angels do not “start revivals”. Next time “Emma” appears to you, you need to cast “her” out. Turn away before you lose EVERYTHING. Over time people will forget about you and all that has happened, you need to prove nothing. Jesus can fix it, let it go BEFORE you die in it my friend.

Child rape is utterly horrible but the Word says that all our sins are forgiven in Christ (1 Jn 1:9, Mt 12:31). Mt 18 does not overrule that, on the contrary, that very chapter talks about forgiving people even if they sin against you many times. Exegetical scholars agree upon that “the little ones” refer to Jesus’ disciples rather than children, and it aint and argument for not forgiving, cause that would sort of contradict the rest of Jesus’ teaching. Forgive and be happy.
